The probability of Noynoy Aquino being far removed from the reality of the country\'s multi-faceted problems is extremely high, now that he himself has disclosed he does not want to hear any bad news from his Cabinet secretaries and other officials, three of whom he said always brought up problems whenever they seek an appointment with him.
Noynoy also said this was the reason he immediately approves appointments from his secretaries who always bring him \"good news\" and have solutions to the problems.
It has come to the point, he told an audience composed of Department of Public Works and Transportation officials and personnel, that everytime these three secretaries who are the bearers of \"bad news\" ask for an appointment with him, he has to force himself to see them, all the while wondering what bad news they are going to give him.
Noynoy, it has been noted for sometime by many, always appears oblivious of what is really going on around him and even around the nation and its problems, and he always dismisses problems, issues and even simple presidential decisions are delayed saying these are not his priority, as though he can only have one single priority on a given day. He only wants to hear the \"good news\" his favored secretaries tell him, while rejecting the bad news the three unnamed secretaries bring him, and the problems they air, perhaps for his decision which he apparently does not want to make.
All these mean that Noynoy goes to the extent of making excuses not to see the bearer of bad news and bring up problems encountered in their departments that could impact on the government, or dismissing these problems they bring to his attention, which in turn means, that he sits on whatever important problem is brought before him since he is allergic to “bad news.”
At the same time, he has a different way of treating his secretaries who bring him what he believes is the good news and the solutions to problems.
Surely if this is the way Noynoy behaves toward his \"good news\" aides as against his \"bad news\" aides, this could prove to be very dangerous, as those who get his attention, or the bearer of good news could be giving him information that they know would “please” Noynoy, even if they do not give him the entire picture, leaving out information that could displease him.
At the same time, the bearers of \"negative information\" related to the problem, are quickly being left out by Noynoy, yet they could be the very ones who may be able to provide him with a more accurate picture of the problems he faces, and want him to make a decision --- one way or the other, something that Noynoy is loathe to do, as he really doesn’t know what to do.
The one thing that Noynoy obviously believes in as a \"solution\" to the problem of corruption is the cancellation of alleged graft-ridden projects that translate to billions being saved by government.
Obviously, this is the type of \"good news\" Noynoy loves to hear, which is why he almost always brags about this savings bit as his administration\'s \"achievement.\"
No wonder he dismissed the memorandum of resigned Transport chief Ping de Jesus seeking disciplinary action against LTO chief Virginia Torres. Ping gave him the bad news, while Torres was giving Noynoy the \"good news\" of her illegal raid of Stradcom and telling Noynoy that the P1.3 billion payment to Stradcom should not be paid.
Another piece of good news along the mood of Noynoy, appears to be the \"achievement\" of creating a budget surplus by underspending and not even jump-starting and pump-priming the economy by not coming up with any project at all, as he prefers not to spend the funds for these projects.
The good news to him was that his aides were busy looking over all the contracts entered into with the previous government, and the bad news which he did not want to hear is that of the impact of this on the economic growth which was pretty damaging as the GDP has slowed.
Since such is his way of listening only to those who give him the positive news and dismisses those who give him bad news and bring problems to him, what he really has done is to stay in that ivory tower, allowing only a smattering of “good news” aides forming his cordon sanitaire while he continues to live in dreamland.
