IRAN in a news report quotes Vice-President Mohammad Javad Mohammadi-Zadeh as saying that the Department of the Environment is implementing various plans to revive the Urmia Lake including transferring 700 million cubic meters of water annually from other water resources such as Aras River and also rivers in Kordestan province. He added that another way of reviving the lake is cloud seeding, and this measure has been partially implemented. He said a revival of the lake falls within a five-year plan which its first stage is under implementation. The director of Department of the Environment also says any construction project in the vicinity of the lake is considered a crime. (The Urmia Lake is a salt lake lying in the northwestern Iran and is home to various migratory birds including flamingos, pelicans, spoonbills, ibises, storks, avocets, stilts, and gulls. The lake is located between the provinces of East Azarbaijan and West Azarbaijan. It is the third largest salt water lake on earth with a surface area of approximately 5,200 square kilometers.)
TEHRAN-E EMROOZ in a news report quotes Basij Commander Mohammad-Reza Naqdi as calling the “deviant current” a small and rootless group with no social status which Basij does not feel any urgency to draw up plans to deal with it. Referring to the popular uprisings in regional states, the commander said there is no doubt that we should support people in these countries. Naqdi also said some people believe the revolutions are genuine and are rooted in Islamic teachings while others believe that the outsiders are manipulating the events. However, he said we should support all freedom-seekers in the world
