A disaster in Cotabato

Noynoy’s former high survey ratings are receding and his allies are starting to worry but not his several alternating Palace mouthpieces who still hold that those respondents expressing satisfaction on the administration remain in the majority.
What is striking about the survey results, however, is that these are going downhill continuously and at an increasing rate.
Moreover, in Metro Manila where the fate of presidents is made or unmade, Noy’s approval rating hangs in the balance at 57 percent in the latest Pulse Asia survey which means that those who are either undecided or the dissatisfied with his performance and the believers of Noy are almost even — if one goes by the surveys.
Noy and his Palace defenders need to start reflecting on these figures as staunch Noy ally, Sen. Francis Escudero, noted that the people are starting to realize that their expectations on Noynoy when he was elected to the highest seat of the land are not being met.
Other revealing points in the survey was that a minority or 39 percent found Noy effective in bringing down the costs of basic goods and services which is already a warning sign since unrest usually results from depriving the populace of access to their basic needs. The rest of the respondents were divided between those who disapproved of his policies on prices at 29 percent and those ambivalent on the issue at 32 percent.
In answer to the ratings downslide, the Palace did what Noynoy and his backers used to criticize former President Gloria Arroyo for, which was to say that his administration was too busy attending to so many problems of the country to worry about the survey results.
Noynoy, for his part, said that he’s really not concerned with popularity, a statement that was a clear copy of the stock reply of Gloria in the past about the presidency not being a popularity contest.
Popularity or none, however, the fact remains that disenchantment is spreading fast and Noynoy is only to blame for it.
When Noynoy tried to elude a question about his falling survey numbers, he argued that popularity was not his priority and that he was leaving for Cotabato which is being massively flooded due, it is claimed, to water hyacinths clogging of the river.
The visit to Cotabato turned out to be a pure photo op, Gloria-style, as there was nothing really achieved by Noynoy or any of his officials during the visit that made Cotabato officials cry out in protest.
Not concerned with popularity he is, but the whole Cotabato visit was all about media mileage.
It was all distribution of relief goods, Noynoy inspecting the river and other similar worn-out media stunts that were seen from the visit that infuriated Cotabato officials as there was nothing really done to suggest a solution for the problem or offer help for flood victims.
The local officials waited in vain for Aquino to offer a solution to the flooding problem.
Some of the officials confronted Aquino demanding that he propose a solution to the worsening flood problem.
His reply was predictably moronic: “We wish to remind everybody that our administration is just one year in office.”
His reply presupposed that he is still feeling his way around one year after being elected president.
That further caused mass frustration among officials who noted that not much ingenuity or presidential experience is needed to haul out the intruding plants blocking the free flow of water in the river.
What was being sought was manpower and financing to speed up the declogging of the river.
Even Maguindanao Gov. Esmael Mangudadatu, now Noynoy’s ally and was once the ally of notorious Ampatuan clan that is now his enemy, was similarly aghast at the reply of Noynoy and his useless visit.
He noted that all Noynoy brought with him are relief goods and not a solution to the problem.
No wonder his ratings are on a nosedive. People have started to see who Noynoy really is: A thoroughly incompetent president.
